without a post dedicated to the emans family tree hunt.
i always like to kick off the holiday season the day after thanksgiving and get started right away with christmas festivities. annie was born on dec 2nd, and now that she's a little older, i've tried to steer clear of decorating before her little friends party. even though it's usually the saturday right after thanksgiving, it's killing me to not start decorating.
BUT, we had to get the tree friday. you know, before all the good ones were gone.
we headed out around 10 friday morning. gram came along 'cause we thought it would be really fun for her to join the adventure since they haven't gone on a tree hunt in years.
we headed here
first we checked the precut trees. we got a beautiful one last year in the precut section after walking around for at least an hour. unfortunately we didn't like the selection this year.
we walked around for at least 40 minutes looking at tons of trees.
i have a piece of advice for all you young people who are engaged or haven't found their soulmate just yet.
YOU MUST DISCUSS WHAT KIND OF CHRISTMAS TREE YOU GREW UP WITH AND PREFER
case in point me: douglas fir, eric: noble fir.
i like the fullness of the douglas. to me it means more ornaments. eric likes the color of the noble.
it took many years to come to an agreement on what kind of tree "WE" like.
we usually try to find something in the middle.
THIS YEAR, i almost succumbed to a noble, but i just couldn't make peace with the top. the ones we saw were fairly full at the bottom and in the middle, but last 1/3, oy. i just couldn't do it.
after we were about 20 minutes in, annie just wanted us to cut down anything. she didn't care. she just wanted to get the hell out of dodge. and told us so numerous times until we actually decided on a tree.
this was the first year that gracie had a strong opinion about the tree and vehemently out ruled me with daddy.
we circled back to where we started and went with this HUGE ARSE nordmann. it was a beauty.
unfortunately, i go kind of all clark griswold at the tree farm. i mean, they just don't look that big out there in the field with all the other trees.
eric kept his mouth shut and cut it down.
in hindsight, i wish he would have strong armed me into the noble.
(where were ya on that one, hon?)
cause we got that sucker home and it is HUGE.
after cutting about $30 off of the $70 tree...it's still HUGE.
i may have probed to see if there was any way we could get a different tree, but thought better of actually asking for a new one.
i swore on a stack of christmas vacation movies, in front of eric, my mom and the girls, that i would NEVER, EVER pick out another tree that big.
i don't think eric's holding his breath.
