gracie came home with her pencil of power
exciting.
she informed me this week that she gets to play the xylophone in next week's spring concert for school. she is totally excited.
we had a really great monday together. as she was going to bed, she commented "mommy i've been nice to you today." to which i responded by saying that it's one of the best days we've had in a long time and it was so nice to get along so well and how i really enjoyed spending time with her. she earned a dollar that night for being nice to me. yes, i am paying my kids an allowance for treating me nice. one would think kids get an allowance for doing chores. nope, not my kids. gracie is already very responsible when it comes to making her bed, picking up her toys and putting her clothes away.
tuesday morning started off with silent tears about not knowing what to wear for the day. there were no more dollars earned this week. nuff said.
she did get to go to the bookstore on tuesday and spend one of her birthday gift cards. i love that she wanted to save her other gift card for the summer.
annie's last day of preschool was tuesday.
i have two other pictures of her on her last day, but one is poor exposure and the other shows her hair when you don't wash it after swim on monday, sleep on it and then don't really brush it out before school on tuesday. she looks kind of like a mad woman in it. i like how in all of them you can see the remnants of her fiber chocolate chip muffin that she ate for breakfast.
she brought home her little preschool portfolio. as i type, this i remember that i didn't scan her self- portraits that she drew in sept, jan and may. i would love to comment on how much they changed in a year, like improved so tremendously, but that's not going to happen. instead of learning letters and numbers this summer, annie will be drawing self portraits every day. you can, however, see how much writing her name improved over the course of the year.
her teacher wrote a little "preschool highlights" note:
I call her my summer girl because often she would come to school wearing bright colored warm weather clothes (which teacher was probably thinking "i cannot believe her mother sends her to school in these outfits" hey my kids are heaters...always hot.)Annie and Mrs. Post would sit together during free play reading books;enjoyed both playing independently or with one or two friends with the classroom toys and educational activities;loved painting on the easel and doing the daily craft; Annie was kind, friendly and helpful to her classmates and teacher. Mrs. Marrs and i were privileged to have Annie in our class. God's blessings to her and her family in the school years to come. Love, Mrs. Post
wednesday was shopapalooza for some cheap summer clothes to leave at the townhome so i don't have to pack the girls every time we head over. yay for me.
thursday was another busy day but we didn't have to go anywhere in the evening.
which is good because some nights a girl has just got to stay home and fill out her coconut friendship file, ya know?
today was annie's last day of her fun friday preschool. the theme was red, white and blue. they had a parade. it was very sweet.
after the parade we went back to her class and the kids had ice cream. when it was time to say good bye, i cried. lots of crying. couldn't stop crying.
so we headed down to downtown snohomish for a little photo shoot for another photography class that i am taking.
we didn't make it very far because, like a brand new puppy, i got distracted...by a sign that said
FIFTY PERCENT OFF EVERYTHING IN THE STORE
the store had a ton of melissa and doug toys...some of the best toys known to man. spent 75 dollars and came out with three bags of toys, crafts and drawing papers and a birthday present for a cute neighbor who is going to be six soon. i really should have bought more craft kits and put them away for birthdays throughout the year.
then i had to feed annie so we went to the snohomish bakery (don't walk, RUN there) where she had a slice of pizza and i had a half a pastrami sandwich with swiss and caramelized onions. i about died. i don't usually let myself indulge in something yummy for lunch. but i had NO regrets.
we topped the afternoon off with a trip to the park for her end of the year preschool picnic. shockingly it didn't start raining until we'd had enough and were ready to go home.
for the evening we went to penny creek and manned a station for the mother/son survivor night. and then popcorn and the first half of the tooth fairy when we got home. kind of a funny movie.
eric has been in NY since wednesday having the time of his life with his BFF, they're there for pearl jam. they've had amazing seats, seen some celebs and got to go back stage. he was thrilled to report (in his alcohol induced state) that he got to drink wine from the same glass as eddie vedder. might i add that was along with about 20 other new yorkers. let me say right now that there will be no kisses until he's had his hep b test. gross.
in training news, i was/am not able to fit in my long run this week or weekend but i am trying not to obsess about it.
something i HAVE obsessed about this week, hence the lack of blog posts, is this book and this book. was totally addicted to them. the third book in the trilogy comes on on the 25th of this month. can't wait to see how it ends.
have a great weekend.
